Transfer tool used to move stitches from one needle to another

Transfer Tool

tool used to move stitches sideways on the needle bed for shaping or decorative work.

A transfer tool is a hand tool with two or more prongs used to move stitches from one needle to another. Each prong holds a stitch securely so you can shift stitches sideways on the needle bed.

You’ll use a transfer tool for:

  • Increases and decreases
  • Moving stitches during shaping
  • Creating eyelets, decorative movement, or hand-worked lace
  • Spacing needles for every-other-needle work
  • Correcting mispositioned stitches without removing the fabric

Transfer tools come in different sizes—1-prong, 2-prong, 3-prong, or larger—but they all do the same job: help you reposition stitches cleanly and accurately.
