Latch tool with latch-hook tip used for transferring and repairing stitches

Latch Tool (tappit tool)

A small hook tool with a latch, used for picking up stitches, reforming stitches, and making quick fixes at the machine.

The latch tool is a small hand tool with a latch-hook tip, shaped like a miniature version of your machine's needles. It's one of the most versatile tools you'll use at the machine.

Knitters use the latch tool to:

  • Pick up dropped stitches
  • Work manual increases or decreases
  • Transfer stitches for shaping or decorative work
  • Bind off or cast on by hand
  • Create small repairs without removing the fabric from the machine

Because the hook has a built-in latch, it holds the yarn securely as you move stitches from one needle to another or build new stitches by hand.
