Every Needle (EN)
Knitting across all working needles with no skipped spaces for a full, smooth fabric.
Every needle means knitting across all working needles with no spaces or skipped positions. Every needle is in use, creating a full, smooth fabric.
You’ll see this used when you want:
Standard, all-needle stockinette
A stable section before or after shaping
A firm base for ribs, hems, or decorative details
This is the opposite of working on every other needle, which creates a more open, lighter fabric. Patterns often switch between the two, so instructions will clearly tell you whether to set the machine for EN (every needle) or EON (every other needle).
Example
With main yarn, cast on over EN (every needle)
