Hold Position

Hold Position (HP)

A needle position where needles are pulled fully forward

Hold position refers to needles that are pulled fully forward so they do not knit, even though they remain engaged with the yarn. Depending on the machine brand, this is typically Position E or D.

With the correct carriage setting, needles in hold position retain existing stitches but do not form new ones until they are returned to a working position.

Example
Put into hold position the first 5 needles on the armhole side
